Professor Prof Tim Senden
About
Professor Tim Senden is the new Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Infrastructure and Entities) and the interim Director of the ANU Defence Institute.
Tim is a graduate of the ANU, completing his BSc(Hons) in Physical Chemistry in 1989 at the Research School of Chemistry, and subsequently his PhD in Atomic Force Microscopy in 1993 in the Research School of Physics and Engineering. He held positions at the College de France (Paris), Institute Charles Sadron (Strasbourg), and UNSW ADFA before returning to the ANU in 1997 and has served as Director of the Research School of Physics for the past decade.
Tim has spent much of this 30 years at the ANU focused on industry engagement, being part of teams that have established major partnerships including collaborations around nuclear stewardship, and the Rio Tinto relationship that brought together social scientists and STEM researchers around responsible technology development. Tim has been part of the ANU Defence Reference Group since 2023 and has served on the Steering Committee for the ANU Defence Institute since its establishment in mid - 2024.
